Traveling to Guyana

Guyana Flag

Guyana is located in the southeastern part of South America. It is known to be a sovereign nation and has a population of about 789,200 people. Its capital is Georgetown, Guyana. Guyana was named the world's best ecotourism destination in May 2019. Thanks to their conservation and preservation of their wildlife and nature, they are able to bring tourists from around the world.

When travelling to Guyana, there are many requirements one needs to meet before travelling. First, one must need a valid passport, vaccination certificate for yellow fever, and a visa to those who are required to have one. If one is from the U.S.A. one does not need a visa to Guyana and can stay up to three months. Those who are from other countries, one will need to fill out a Visitor's Visa Application and fill out the requirements needed. Whether your a tourist from the U.S or a tourist from another country, one must provide a negative Covid-19 test, 72 hours prior to the flight. For more information, one can visit the Guyana Embassy website. Once you have that figured out, one can find flights to Guyana. If in the U.S, airlines that fly to Guyana are American Airlines, JetBlue, and Caribbean Airlines. For instance, if you plan a trip for Spring break, one can buys a round-trip ticket from March 15,2021 to April 6, 2021 the total cost will be around $582.45. Then, one would have to find a place to stay. One can find hotels, guest-houses, or even eco-cabins to stay in. I great guest-house in Guyana is called Ms. Holder's Comfort Villa. It is located in Georgetown, Guyana and it is 33 minutes from the airport. For a total of 22 days in the Villa, the total cost is $941 which includes breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and everything else you need to stay comfortable and safe. The most important information one needs to know is the currency exchange from the U.S dollar to the Guyanese dollar if traveling from the U.S. For one dollar in the U.S, it is $209.38 Guyanese dollars.

Kaieteur Falls
One you have flights and hotels set, it's now time to look for places to visit and activities to do in Guyana. One can visit the Kaieteur Falls at the Kaieteur National Park. There one could go on hikes and visit one of the world's largest waterfall that has about 30,000 gallons of water coming down. Imagine all the amazing photos one could take in front of the waterfall. Another place one can visit is the capital, Georgetown. In Georgetown, one can visit the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology and see the collective arts of the ancient culture of the Indigenous people. Also, one can get a taste of the Guyana by visiting the Stabroek Market. Here one could buy fresh fruits and vegetables. There are so many places to visit, I just don't know where to start.

Overall, planning a trip isn't easy. One has to calculate how much they're going to spend on hotels, tickets, food, car rentals, and so much more. In this case, the total cost of the hotel and plane ticket is $1,523.45 in dollars. Aside from how much money I would need for the 22 days I would stay there, I would say I would need about $2,000 in U.S dollar which would be $471,876.20 Guyanese dollars. I hope it's enough if not more. It's safe if I have more than what I need because one could never know what could happen in a foreign country.
